Ah, summer. Long days. Relaxation. Vacation. What are you doing this summer? Many of us take time off from our community groups, ministry teams, Sunday school classes, and other activities.
But God doesn’t ever slumber or sleep, does He?
Here are three things I’ll be doing this summer. Want to join me?
Praying for my neighbors: Until recently on my daily walks, I had been praying for each home as I walked by, but because I didn’t know the names of 75% of my neighbors, my prayers had devolved into “Lord, please draw the people in #20 to you. Lord, please be at work in #127 today” and so on. Enter the “Bless Every Home” app (it is school-bus yellow), introduced to me by Dave Gadoury, our former Lead Pastor. Download the app, tell it what street you’d like to be praying for, and it will let you select how many neighbors per day you’d like to pray for and what time you’d like the reminder. I have the app set so that at 5:30 am every day when I’m headed out for my walk, I am given the names and addresses of five neighbors. As I walk by their houses, I pray specifically for them. The app has more features as well so you can live the care/ prayer/ share lifestyle. Give it a try!
Praying for the unreached: Every morning my blue “Unreached of the Day” app reminds me to pray for a particular people group who does not know Jesus, and it provides me with all sorts of information about this group. As I write this, today’s people group is the Mandaean in the United Kingdom, 1,100 souls who don’t yet know Jesus. Since Jesus won’t be returning until there are people from each group who know Him, I consider it a privilege to be a part of this endeavor, and look forward to meeting the Mandaean (and yesterday’s people group, and tomorrow’s people group, and so on) around His glorious throne someday!
Praying for a surprise country: As you get dressed every day, take a quick look at the tag in your shirt. Where was it made? Pray for the people in that country, and the people who made your clothing.
Have a great summer and may God be mightily at work in your neighborhood…and around the world!
