“Seeking God in Our Decision-Making” by Emily Correia

by | Jan 22, 2019

Have you ever been so concerned about a choice or decision you had to make that you contemplated it day and night? You just keep writing scenarios in your head, contemplating which would be best, what you should say or do or choose. Sometimes it even makes you feel sick to your stomach. Maybe you work in management and have to fire people. Maybe you’re in highschool and you need to choose what college to attend. Maybe you’re in a relationship that is at a crossroad.

It can seem impossible to make a decision sometimes and there’s always the fear of “what if I don’t make the right choice?”

The Bible offers so much wisdom and encouragement when it comes to decision-making. Even if WE don’t know what to do, our loving God cares about the outcome and offers guidance if we seek His direction through life’s hard choices.

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

Here are some verses that may help reveal your next step in making a decision:

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:5‬

“Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.” Proverbs 29:11

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬ ‭

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:31‬

As Christians, our ultimate obligation is to bring glory to God. This doesn’t mean your choices in life will be easy, or make sense to everyone. No matter what, fervently seek God‘s guidance because He promises to lead you.

In Christ

What does it mean that I am “in Christ?” It was always a confusing expression to me. I tried to picture myself sort of small-sized, inside a glowing Jesus. But several good teachers, including my Dad, explained it like this: When God the Father looks at you, He...

Less Static, More Grace

Recently, one of my kids went on a mission trip and was trying to give me a call to check in. Since this was the first time she had ever really been away for a significant amount of time “on her own,” I was obviously thrilled to speak with her. There was just one...
