Living Generously

Inviting God into Every Corner of Your Life

Have you ever found yourself inviting Jesus into your life but keeping certain areas off-limits? Maybe it’s your finances, your entertainment choices, or even your relationships. You’re not alone. Many of us have those “do not enter” signs hanging on parts of our lives. What if we allowed His radical grace to transform every aspect of our lives, including our finances?

In our recent sermon series “Stay Out”, we’ve been exploring what it means to invite God into every area of our lives. We’ve talked about having a biblical perspective on food, entertainment, and now, our finances. The main point is clear: Radical generosity from our lives is a reflection of God’s radical grace in our lives. When we truly experience the grace of Jesus, it changes us from the inside out, leading us to live generously in every way.

Understanding Radical Grace and Generosity

The Bible tells us that everything we have comes from God and belongs to Him. This truth is foundational to living a life of radical generosity. When we recognize that our resources are not our own, but gifts from God, it changes how we view and use them. The story of Veronica, a woman from Uganda who gave her only chicken to help rebuild her community, illustrates this beautifully. Despite her poverty, she understood that everything she had was God’s, and she gave generously.

Jesus taught us that life is not measured by how much we own but by our relationship with God. In Luke 12, He warns against storing up earthly wealth without being rich toward God. Our resources are to be used for God’s purposes, and when we seek His kingdom first, He promises to provide for our needs.

Taking Action: Living Generously

So, how can you start living a life of radical generosity? Here are a few steps to consider:

  1. Acknowledge God’s Ownership: Begin by recognizing that everything you have is from God. Thank Him for your home, your car, your job—everything. This mindset shift is crucial.
  2. Seek Opportunities to Give: Look for ways to be generous with your time, talents, and resources. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, supporting a local charity, or volunteering at your church, find ways to give back.
  3. Start Small: If you’re not in the habit of giving, start with a small, regular contribution. It could be a percentage of your income or a set amount each month. The key is to be intentional and consistent.
  4. Pray for a Generous Heart: Ask God to help you develop a heart of generosity. Pray for opportunities to bless others and for the courage to act when those opportunities arise.

Conclusion

The point is, Jesus wants your whole heart. What will you do this week to give it to Him? Consider what you’re holding onto and ask yourself if it’s keeping you from experiencing the abundant life Jesus promises. Let go and invite God into every area of your life. Without taking this step, you might miss out on the incredible things He wants to do through you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your radical grace that transforms our lives. Help us to recognize that everything we have is a gift from You. Give us generous hearts that reflect Your love and grace to those around us. Show us how we can use our resources for Your purposes and guide us to live lives of radical generosity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
