“Let Go and Lean In” by Ryan Irving

by | Mar 17, 2020

At a time when things seem out of hand, we are inundated with information, overwhelmed by fear, confused about what to do – we tend to seek control.

The reality is, most circumstances are entirely out of our control. These tough times, however, are a reminder that God will get us through.

“fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 ESV

Of course letting go of fear is easier said than done. When we’re constantly reminded to be worried, presented stories that provoke anxiety, told to be scared – we tend to give in. But, these are mandates from man. God has different orders for us:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 ESV

Relinquish control because God is with you. Though it’s a repetitive message in the Bible, I still struggle with letting go. “With just a bit more planning, gathering more info, with just a little more effort I can fix this!” Can you relate?

Often there isn’t any more we alone can do. Instead look to the one that has done more than we can ever fathom.

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT

Every situation gives way to opportunity. While not always obvious, it is present. When faced with fear it can prompt us to turn to God. An opportunity to dive further into His word, or to strengthen our faith and connection through prayer.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

During a time when many around us are facing the same struggles there’s a chance to be a light to those stuck in the dark. How can we come alongside others struggling to get past their fears?

“…always being prepared to [explain] to anyone… [the] reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15 ESV

In the midst of any tragedy the chaos seems infinite. However history consistently reveals all hardships are impermanent. Be comforted knowing this too will end, that God is looking out for you and His powerful presence can always be felt.

Confidently let go of your worries and strongly lean in to the word of God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

In Christ

What does it mean that I am “in Christ?” It was always a confusing expression to me. I tried to picture myself sort of small-sized, inside a glowing Jesus. But several good teachers, including my Dad, explained it like this: When God the Father looks at you, He...
