Growing Your Story: How God’s Unfinished Work in You Points Others to Jesus
Ever feel like your faith story peaked the day you first believed in Jesus? Like the most exciting chapter was your conversion, and everything since has been… well, ordinary?
Here’s the truth: God isn’t finished writing your story. In fact, some of the most powerful chapters are happening right now—in the middle of your journey with Him.
Your Story Has Three Parts
The Apostle Paul gives us a beautiful picture in Philippians 1:6: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Notice the arc? There’s a beginning (when you first trusted Jesus), an ending (the day you’ll be with Him forever), and everything in between—these middle chapters where you’re living right now.
Most of us love telling our “before and after” testimonies. And we should! But don’t overlook what God is doing in these ordinary, everyday moments. Because here’s what’s happening: God is still actively working in you, growing fruit that others can see, and using your story to point people toward Him.
God Isn’t Done Working in You
Paul doesn’t say “I hope God finishes what He started.” He says he’s confident of it. Why? Because he’d watched the Philippian believers grow for years. He saw evidence of God’s grace from day one until the moment he wrote them this letter.
The same is true for you. Look back at your life. Can you see places where God has already changed you? Made you more patient? More forgiving? More hopeful in hard seasons? That’s evidence He’s at work—and reason to trust He’ll keep going.
Yes, some chapters are harder than others. Some are confusing. But even when you can’t see what God is doing, you can trust He’s still writing. Growth doesn’t always feel dramatic, but it’s happening little by little, more and more, beneath the surface.
Fruit Reveals What’s Growing Inside
Think about a fruit tree. You know it’s an apple tree because apples show up. The fruit doesn’t make it an apple tree—it reveals what the tree already is.
That’s how it works with Jesus in you. The love, peace, patience, and hope growing in your life aren’t things you white-knuckle into existence. They’re the fruit of Jesus working in you (Philippians 1:11). As you stay rooted in Him—through prayer, Scripture, worship, and community—His life produces fruit naturally.
And here’s the beautiful part: people notice.
Your Story Points Others to Jesus
When someone sees you walk through hardship with unexplainable peace, they wonder where it comes from. When they watch you forgive instead of growing bitter, they’re curious. When they notice you becoming more generous, more joyful, more whole—they may even compliment you.
That’s your moment. Don’t deflect or hide it. Point them to Jesus.
“Honestly, I couldn’t do this on my own. Jesus is changing me.”
“Can I tell you what God’s been teaching me lately?”
It doesn’t have to be polished or dramatic. Just honest. Because as 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, we should always be ready to share the reason for the hope we have.
Your story—the one God is still writing in these middle chapters—is worth telling. And when you share it, you’re not just talking about yourself. You’re pointing people to the One who’s doing the work.

Jesus, thank You that You’re not finished with me yet. Help me see the ways You’re working in my life, even in these ordinary middle chapters. Give me courage to share my story—not to point to myself, but to point others to You. Use the fruit You’re growing in me to draw people closer to Your heart. Amen.
