Don’t Settle for Easy

by | Apr 15, 2025

You might be wondering, “How can I truly show love in a world that often feels so self-centered?” If you’ve ever felt the tension between taking the easy route and choosing the path of sacrifice, you’re not alone. In our recent sermon, we explored the profound truth that the greatest love is shown through sacrifice, as exemplified by Jesus. This isn’t just a lofty ideal; it’s a call to action for each of us. So, how do we live this out in our daily lives?

The main point of our sermon was clear: Don’t settle for easy when you can show the greatest love through the hard labor of sacrifice. Jesus demonstrated this by riding into Jerusalem, fully aware of the suffering He would endure for our sake. He chose the path of sacrifice, and as His followers, we’re called to do the same. This means living as a “living sacrifice,” as Paul describes in Romans 12, by laying down our lives daily in love and service to God and others.

Living Sacrificially: What Does It Look Like?

  1. Choose to Love Genuinely: Paul urges us not to just pretend to love others but to really love them. This means going beyond words and showing love through actions, even when it’s hard. Think about the relationships in your life. Are there people you find difficult to love? What would it look like to love them sacrificially?
  2. Serve Wholeheartedly: Serving isn’t just about obligation; it’s about enthusiasm and joy. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or volunteering at church, serving with a willing heart can transform both you and those you serve. Consider how you can serve others this week with enthusiasm.
  3. Celebrate Hope: Even in times of trouble, we’re called to rejoice in the hope we have in Christ. Sharing this hope with others, even when it feels awkward, can be a powerful act of love. Who in your life needs to hear about the hope you have?
  4. Be Ready to Help: Living sacrificially means being prepared to help when needs arise. This might mean adjusting your lifestyle to have the resources and time to help others. Are you ready to step in when someone needs you?
  5. Work for Unity: Paul encourages us to live in harmony with others, blessing those who persecute us and rejoicing with those who rejoice. This requires empathy and a willingness to put others first. How can you promote unity in your community?

Conclusion

The point is clear: Jesus calls us to a life of sacrificial love. This week, consider how you can lay down your life in small ways to show the greatest love to those around you. What steps will you take to live out this call to sacrifice? Remember, without taking this step, you might miss out on the fullness of life Jesus wants for you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible love You’ve shown us through Jesus’ sacrifice. Help us to follow His example by living lives of sacrificial love. Give us the courage to choose the hard path of service and unity, and to be ready to help those in need. May our lives reflect Your love to the world around us. Amen.
