Decluttering Everything

by | Mar 5, 2024

Life these days often seems so cluttered. Our days may be filled with a multitude of activities, or our shelves filled with dozens of small “just in case” items. However, it is important to ask ourselves if all these things are really worth it. For, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19)

First, it is important to note we don’t need to get rid of everything, but, speaking from experience, we likely all have clutter. Whether it be wasting time on social media, or stacks of papers we need to go through. These things may all be small, but they contribute to an unfulfilling style of living. Having a lot of stuff often adds stress as well, as it extends to-do lists, which often leads to procrastination.

Clearing out old junk can actually be relaxing as well. Watching as you discard old papers and deleting unneeded apps is very satisfying. However, it is also important to not get addicted to getting rid of things, and then get rid of too much, and then have to get even more.

Decluttering your living space also helps you to live a simpler life, with more time and space. Stress will be relieved, and your mind cleared. And what better way to spend this time than reading the Bible and praying! It is a great relief to have more time to focus on truly living, that is a life lived for God. As Paul writes to the Corinthians, “For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.” (2 Corinthians 1:12)
