Have you ever come across a classified ad that makes a product sound so bad that you actually consider buying it? A website for cheap used cars gives very honest reviews of the cars for potential buyers, detailing every issue with each car, such as:
“rust holes…burnt orange paint…funky stained vinyl interior… does appear to be complete, has a title and is in repairable condition if that is your sort of thing.”
“failed (state inspections) for numerous safety related items… malfunctioning brake system….”
Below is a “classified ad” for the Perspectives course, which is coming soon. (If you plan to stop reading now, don’t. This blog was written specifically for you!)
Wanted: people to take an expensive class that will consume many hours of their week, for about three months. As it is held in the evening, you will be exhausted and will just want to go to bed, but you will need to log into Zoom for three hours, once a week. Besides the online class, you will have a lot of reading in between the classes and will have to answer questions about your reading.
Wow! That does not sound very appealing, does it? Why in the world would you want to take the Perspectives course, given that “classified ad”? Let’s continue…
Through a different, gifted speaker each week, the course will open your eyes to what God has been doing and is doing throughout history. Whether you have been a follower of Christ for six months or 60 years, whether you are 14 or 94, whether you are in the youth group or are a pastor, you will learn amazing things about God. You will fall deeper in love with Jesus. You will find new things in your Bible, even if you’ve read it many times. You will not despair at the news, because you will know God is doing amazing things in the midst of the chaos of our world. You will consider your gifts and how God can use them. Your eyes will be open to your neighbors and the world around you. You will look back and say “I wish I had taken the Perspectives class years ago!” and you will want all your friends to do so.
