Finding Fulfillment When Empty: How One Prodigal’s Return Reveals God’s Relentless Love

Maybe it’s achievements at work, a new relationship, substances, or endless busyness. We chase these things hoping they’ll satisfy the gnawing void—but they never quite do. The Danger of Living for Pride

The Church That Wouldn’t Give Up
While he was running, Hope Church was practicing biblical church discipline—not as punishment, but as restoration. They followed Matthew 18, confronting sin lovingly, praying persistently, and eventually treating him as an unbeliever because that’s how he was choosing to live.
But here’s what’s remarkable: they never stopped loving him. For twenty years, people prayed. They reached out. They blessed him when they saw him. When he finally walked back through the doors—terrified of judgment—he encountered grace instead.
The church demonstrated what Paul instructed in 2 Corinthians 2:7-8: “You should instead forgive and comfort him…reaffirm your love for him.” They chose patience over condemnation, kindness over self-righteousness.
The Power of BLESS
What brought him back? Faithful people living out the BLESS acronym:
- Begin with prayer – Someone prayed for “the one” God put on their heart
- Listen – A pastor sat and genuinely heard his story without judgment
- Eat together – They shared meals and built authentic connection
- Serve – They met practical and spiritual needs with generosity
- Share your Story – They pointed him back to Jesus
