Choosing God

by | May 24, 2022

We cannot force others who don’t believe the Bible to be true to follow it; if we do, we are no better than tyrants. It’s important to remember that God gave us free will and that religion is a choice, not a mandate.

Should we strive to save others? Yes, but not at the expense of their freedoms. Lifestyles that do not follow God’s path or plan will not go away if we ban them. Doing so would only ensure that those living those lifestyles will never feel safe around those who police them. Ultimately, their hearts won’t be open to accepting the Good News.

Let us ensure safety, let us protect rights, but people should not be forced to conform to a way of living that they do not want. This is the root of fascism. Disagreements are inevitable, natural, and are the mother of innovative problem-solving. But disagreements should not be stomped out until only one side is victorious.

God wants us to choose Him. Let me repeat that: He wants us to choose. Our mission is to help people see that God is the way and the light, but we cannot and should not choose someone’s lifestyle for them.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” We don’t have to get it all “right” first. We can come to Jesus no matter where our choices or lifestyles have led us. It’s through accepting this gift and allowing the Spirit to change us that we are made right in God’s sight.
